Urgent Need: Please Spread the Word!

The below email was sent to me from Shepherd's Crook Ministries (see below for details on their ministry). The letter below presents an urgen need in the life of a 15 year old girl. Please, even if you are not in a position to adopt, pass this information on or donate towards her adoption. You could make a huge difference in the life of this girl.

"Urgent Need: Laurel
Yesterday we were alerted to the urgent need of a fifteen-year-old girl from Eastern Europe. Her name is Laurel, and she faces life in an adult mental institution if she is not adopted within the next few months. This is despite the fact that she has no mental disabilities; she has arthrogryposis, a condition which affects the joints and results in low muscle strength, but which has no effect on the person's cognitive faculties. When she turns sixteen this summer, she will not be eligible for adoption at all, something which we do not want to see happen. She is said to be a smart and friendly, and she wants very badly to be part of a family. There is a significant grant available for her adoption, and we trust that the Lord will provide—as He always does—the other funds that Laurel's forever family will need in order to adopt her. Immediate action is required, and it is possible to complete an adoption from her home country in a short time, so there is still hope for this young lady.

"Unlike the children that we typically plead for, Laurel is not listed on our website. You can find her information by clicking here, which will take you to the website for Reece's Rainbow. They can accept tax-deductible donations for the children on their site, so there is no need for us to do the same. Please join with us in praying for her, that she would be spared life in an institution by being adopted before her sixteenth birthday. There really is no time to waste for her. And, as always, feel free to share this message with others."

Shepherd's Crook Ministries
We are not an adoption agency, but a ministry that seeks to aid special needs orphans in several ways. We believe that the most comprehensive way to help these children is to see them placed in a loving, permanent family. Toward that end, we partner with adoption agencies to match children with families who are able to adopt them.

Dr. Hwang Quote of the Day!

Imagine the following quotes said in a very chipper voice with a heavy chinese accent.

"In heaven, God will give us the population mean! So I've been wondering what my job will be in heaven because we won't need statistics. I was thinking about what would make me the most popular...and I thought, 'Sell ice cream!'"

(In response to a question about why she used the sample numbers instead of the population numbers)

"The population is holy. We do not touch them."

The Dr. Dixon Quote of the Day!

"When daughters turn about 11 or 12 they go from Daddy's little girl...to Satan's little girl."

(This next quote is after Dr. Dixon told a story about how he made a girl cry after jokingly remarking on how close she was sitting to her boyfriend. There was just one problem; she was actually having a really hard day and her boyfriend was sitting their trying to comfort her. After telling his story, one of the students in my class asked if they were actually doing something inappropriate and this was Dr. Dixon's response.)

"This couple didn't bother me at all! I was just joking. I've seen couples who bother me...for them to cry would be a godly thing!"

Memoires of a Post-Op Patient

Like so many people who have just undergone surgery, I immediately began to recount memories of having my wisdom teeth removed. I thought you might enjoy them, so here they are.

Book Review: House Rules

House RulesHouse Rules by Jodi Picoult
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jodi Picoult is an exceptional writer and she takes on some tough issues in this book. It was an excellent story that addressed a lot of the different sides of how autism affects a family. Theo, the brother of Jacob who has autism, brings up some feelings that I my self have had to deal with having a brother with autism. There was, however, a rather sketchy scene, which I skipped over once I got there. Just a warning.

But overall, this book is a page turner, an great story, and gets almost everything right in regards to how autism manifests itself.
